Obama - Little will change

Is it fair to judge someone’s effectiveness when all they’ve done is hire staff? I think so, particularly because the decisions politicians have made in the past provide insight into what the will do in the future. Based on the people Obama has selected for his cabinet, I’m less hopeful about change.

Three reasons why little will change:
Economy & Financial Sector. The people who Obama has selected are intertwined with big banks and the corrupt economists that were affiliated with the Clinton administration who are responsible for the deregulation of banks. There will be no reform of the banking and credit systems that are destroying our economy under the Obama administration.
War. Obama selected Hilary as his secretary of state. She’s a hawk, and based on things she has supported, I do not think the current war effort or military philosophy of this country is going to change in the near future. Considering that this is the biggest drain on our economy, here’s another reason why the economy’s not going to turn any time soon.
Agriculture (Energy, Health, & Environment). The country’s sick, literally. The types and frequency of ailments is increasing at an astonishing rate. I’m not sure how the new health care plan is going to work out (if it will even be introduced in this economy), but that’s beside the point. Obama selected Tom Vilsack as his Secretary of Agriculture. The title is misleading and most of us quickly dismiss the importance of this position. This position will closely dictate the future rulings of both the FDA and alternate energy policies. Since Vilsack is the ‘king of corn’, I foresee corn ethanol predominating as an alternate energy source (which is problematic for a variety of reasons — carbon balance, food vs. fuel concerns, etc.). Vislack is also pro-GMOs, additives, etc., everything that is turning out to be harmful to our health & environment but beneficial to industry pocket books.

The people that Obama has selected for key positions have a record for looking out for their friends in high places, not for citizens. While “hope” and “change” were never clearly defined in Obama’s campaign, there are certain expectations for the Obama administration. These expectations for change are based the problems that we faced during the election (primarily the 3 I listed above) and on the grassroots effort that backed him.

I am still hopeful that Obama will prioritize the citizens of this country over his friends in Washington in the policies he sets for this country.

Power deregulation needs to be forced onto each state. It is a no brainer, we provide the availability facet of your electric bill. This lowers your cost while your current utility company still gives the identical service. You still get one invoice it just saves you money.
